North Carolina Republicans voted to repeal the state’s pistol permit requirement, which would allow individuals to buy pistols without a background check. Governor Cooper rightfully vetoed this dangerous bill, as it eliminates a critical tool law enforcement relies on to keep our communities safe. Instead of doing their jobs and upholding Governor Cooper’s veto of the dangerous pistol permit repeal, Representatives Cecil Brockman, Michael Wray, and Tricia Cotham walked away.

In North Carolina, children are 51% more likely to be killed by a gun than the national average.  Representatives Brockman, Wray, and Cotham have just made that statistic likely to increase even further, just as it has in other states who have removed permit requirements.

We must let these representatives know that we are watching them and that we are disappointed, frustrated, and angry. The blood is now on their hands.
