SB43 would allow a person who has a permitted concealed carry handgun to carry it on an education property that is the location of both a school and a place of religious worship.

• An FBI study of 160 active shooter incidents from 2000 to 2013 found that only one was stopped by an individual with a valid firearm permit. In contrast, 21 incidents were stopped by unarmed civilians.
• There have been several instances of accidental shootings, shootouts, tragic church shootings, and a situation where a worshipper disarmed a pastor, then used the gun to kill the pastor and injure others.
• Current state law helps protect children by prohibiting concealed firearms at all schools, including religious places of worship that have an associated school. SB43 would remove this protection, needlessly putting school children at increased risk.
