Poll shows parents disagree with Republicans’ campaign to censor classrooms

Contrary to Republicans’ campaign to censor books and teachers, a majority of parents, across party lines, approve of their children’s schools and support what is currently being taught, according to a new poll

The NPR and Ipsos poll found that 76 percent of the parents surveyed said they were well-informed about what their children were being taught in classrooms, including subjects surrounding race, gender identity, and sexual orientation.

For all of the time and energy spent drumming up outrage, Republicans could have focused on what students, educators, and parents care about – increasing teacher pay, adequately investing in public schools, and ensuring students can receive a sound, basic education.

During this teacher appreciation week, Republicans should listen to their constituents, invest in education and rightfully honor the service and immeasurable contributions of our educators who they have demonized over the past years.
